A Message from the Chair/Secretary of the N.B.T.B.A.
I would like to start by saying Happy New Year to all our teams and supporters on behalf of the trustees, we hope you all enjoyed a good Christmas even if it was quieter than usual.
At the time of writing this, we are still in lockdown and there is a debate as to whether the current restrictions and/or rules are tough enough to bring the infection rate down. The last time I wrote to you in September, I advised the trustees to run a Summer League early in 2021. It is with heavy heart, I have to tell you that it will not be possible to run a Summer league and finals for this year for the following reasons.
We are still getting mixed messages as to when this current lockdown will end so we are not able to consider any action until the restrictions are lifted. Even then we do not know what the new rules will be. One thing we would need to make a decision in the future would be the input of our teams. Whilst most bowling centres rules will be fairly consistant, the size of individual bowling centres from region to region will create differences, so we would still rely on the information you reply so the trustees would need to allow a month from when the bowling centres re-open for teams to report back to us. Having received your feedback we could then begin setting up the league, (Sending out/receiving back Entry Forms, creating the leagues and fixtures etc.). We already know these processes take a month to arrange. In addition, it is not possible to book our hotel for November let alone our bowling venue.
I am only too aware this is not the news many of you were waiting for but we are not giving up hope of running a Winter League (2021/2022) with a finals in April 2022 and we hope you don’t give up either. We will continue to monitor the situation and I will send further updates when we have something to update you with.
So stay safe and well for now
23rd September 2020
The N.B.T.B.A. Chairman John Hoey has sent out an up to date report relating to the Covid 19 virus and the bowling situation.
If you have not seen this please get in touch your club contact who will have a copy.
At this time we cannot make any arrangements to commence league bowling and have now decided to wait until January 2021 to review the situation again and hope there will have been significant improvement to arrange a Summer Doubles League but this will only happen if both the bowling centres and the hotels are fully operational. If not we will then revise the situation again.
Until then, we want everyone to keep safe and active.
22nd September 2020
It is with deep regret that we have to announce the death of David le Poidevin (Snowy). David has been bowling with us for many years starting when he was with the Bristol teams and then with Stockport. He helped us at many of the Finals and we will certainly miss him. He was a true gentleman and we send our deepest sympathy to Patricia (David’s wife). R.I.P. David
17th July 2020
Bowling Centres are due to re-open on 1st August 2020 with restricted bowling due to spacial awareness. We do encourage bowlers to commence bowling on a local basis if possible but the NBTBA cannot commence league bowling until bowling centres are fully operatoional.
We cannot hold a Finals until bowling centres AND the hotel are fully operational and are available to us on the same date.
Please be patient and we will notify all clubs as soon as we can.
20th January 2020
Happy New Year to all
It has been some time since we issued any news as everything has been running so smoothly.
We are over half way through our Winter Trios League and as we have now only 4 more matches to play many teams are pressing hard to qualify for the Finals at the end of April (Finals Day is 25th April at Wigan). We have new teams from Leeds and Stoke competing for the first time and we are looking at more new teams during 2020.
We are ready and waiting for you at the Finals so good luck and we hope to see you at Wigan.
The Summer Doubles League will be commencing from March and the Entry Forms will be sent out towards the end of this month. So get your squads prepared early for the Summer Doubles.
23rd March 2019
We are quickly approaching the Finals of the Winter Trios Finals at Wigan. For the first time in our history we will have 14 teams at the Finals. We also have a new hotel venue although we did stay there about 5 years ago. There will be the largest contingent ever attending the Finals so good luck to all teams and a big thank you to all the volunteers (organisers and helpers) who without their dedication we would not be able to hold this event. Who will win? I think that all 14 teams have indicated that it will be their top trophy this time.
